About Me

Mike throwing horns in a small round profile picture

Hello, I'm Mike! I have recently entered the world of IT and love the possibilities that have opened up before me with the technologies now at my fingertips.

I spent most of 2020 setting up my own blog via GoDaddy/WordPress before becoming more and more curious about how these programs were working. Which led me to start learning HTML/CSS/JavaScript.

By September that year I was convinced that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life! And so I enrolled in SAIT's Web Development program, and completed that in Spring of 2021.

Now specializing in Front-End React development, there's nothing I enjoy more than learning and playing with code. Every day challenging myself to create or learn something new, and add it to my growing toolset.

My Skills

HTML/CSS/JavaScript

With the knowledge and skills I have in these most practical of languages, I have created my very own hand-coded profile site. As well as websites for friends and family.

WordPress

My ability to work with WordPress both using themes, and creating custom sites with Elementor has allowed me to publish my own blogging site, and again help friends and family to establish a more polished online presence.

Node/Express/Heroku + APIs

The work I've done building various bots on different platforms has given me experience creating worker apps and understanding of the capabilities they possess. Either by automating customer engagement, or simply providing entertainment whenever called upon.

Specializing in React!

Starting off with the React courses available on codecademy.com, I've gone on to build a handful of React based apps, including an overhaul of my flagship project using React, Next.js, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS to recreate a site originally built with EJS

Recent Activities

Lately I have been focusing on niching down in React development and brushing up on my overall JavaScript knowledge, with an eye to learn more TypeScript and use it to refine my projects and prevent common bugs.
